Radio Baltic Waves - Clandestine to Belarus By Martin Schoech November 12, 1998
Radio Baltic Waves (RBW), which ran tests last week, is by all indications a clandestine and not a pirate radio station. Rimantas Pleikys, RBW Project Coordinator and a former Lithuanian minister, says in a letter to German listener Martin Elbe, "The purpose of this planned radio service is to deliver uncensored news and commentaries... (to Belarus), where, as you probably know, there are many problems with human rights and freedom of expression..."
"The official, licensed Radio Baltic Waves," he continues "will cooperate with the Minsk-based independent editorial staff, called Radio Ratsiya, and a lot of programming will be transmitted from the Byelorussian capital."
RBW, therefore, is clearly a clandestine and CRW will keep you posted on further developments of this station. |
