Radio Free Asia Adds Broadcast in Uighur
December 23, 1998


US-funded, Washington-based Radio Free Asia, will begin bcing in the Uighur lang. The Uighurs are a Muslim community in northwestern CHN. There has recently been some unrest in this region, as some Uighurs would like to restore the independent state that existed briefly about a half century ago. The schedule will be 0100-0130 on 15405 via Saipan. There will probably be addit freqs. RFA will bc annts publicizing the sce starting 8th Dec, during the scheduled time, with actual programming beginning on 15th Dec.

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is an overt surrogate broadcast outlet funded by the U.S. Government and supervised by the bipartisan Broadcasting Board of Governors. The station was launched in 1996 and broadcasts in Mandarin Chinese, Tibetan, English, Viet, Burmese, Cambodian, and Uyghur.
