Radio Free Asia (RFA) is an overt surrogate broadcast outlet funded by the U.S. Government and supervised by the bipartisan Broadcasting Board of Governors. The station was launched in 1996 and broadcasts in Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Tibetan, Korean, Vietnamese, Burmese, Cambodian, and Uyghur.
Organization
Radio Free Asia (RFA), "a private, non-profit corporation" that was created by the U.S. government with the International Broadcasting Act of 1994. RFA receives an annual federal grant and is supervised by the "bipartisan Broadcasting Board of Governors, (which is) appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate."
