Information Radio

Also known as:
Information Radio was the main PSYOP radio outlet operated by the U.S. military during Operation Enduring Freedom to liberate Afghanistan from Taliban and al-Qaeda control. Initially broadcast from the airborne EC-130E Commando Solo aircraft it shifted to a land-based SOMS-B facility at the Bagram Air Force base in 2002.
Organization
U.S. military in order to educate the public in Afghanistan about the humanitarian airdrops and also to reassure them that the military campaign is targeted at Osama bin Laden and the Taliban.
Location
Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan. Station sits under a tent supported by four humvees.

Between October 2001 and March 2002 6 EC-130E "Commando Solo" aircraft were used, flying above Afghanistan. Broadcast on SW was fed from a transmitter in Turkmenistan.
